Laura MacLachlan

Laura MacLachlan is an Energy Advocate and Educator for the Vermont Energy Education Program with the mission of building a deep understanding of energy through education, encouraging choices that result in sustainability in our communities, economy and environment. Based out of Rutland, Laura collaborates with both teachers and students to embed academic standards into contextualized learning opportunities: Education in Action. Some of the projects that she is thrilled to be a part of:

Christ the King School and Killington Ave: Students realized that parents needed to be educated about drop off routines and created a policy and volunteer staff of students that resulted in decreased idling and improved safety.

Rutland Middle School Youth Build Tiny Houses for Climate Change

Story Stage, 3:00pm

An engineering project that integrated math and science within a Tiny House project that led to a discovery of a city ordinance that did not allow tiny houses in Rutland City, opening a door for students to get involved in public policy debate.

Randolph Union Middle/High School and VT’s Energy Goal of 90 by 2050: During a year (SY’19/20) long investigation into climate, human impacts and energy, students still did not see themselves as part of the solution (or problem). This year, students are working on personalized SMART goals to integrate energy and climate as part of their cumulative year-end presentation.
